Intro to Heron's Perspective

The Heron's Perspective

Your 12 week newsletter to help you handle life's little and big challenges with grace and optimism.

Welcome to the Heron's Perspective newsletter!

For the next 12 weeks, you’ll receive a boost of inspiration, positivity, and curiosity right in your inbox. Think of it as a gift for your mindset and soul.

I’m Sara Corckran — wife, mother of three, mindset coach, author of Grit and Grace and speaker .

My goal is to provide you with practical tools, simple action steps, and inspiration to help you face your days, weeks, and challenges through the eyes of opportunity.

Why the Heron?

The heron is both a friend and a neighbor to me. He offers quiet wisdom and a beautiful reminder of our own strength. Just look at his slender bamboo-like legs holding up such a substantial body. Every time I see one, I’m reminded that we don’t need giant pillars to support us—only our own two legs.

When facing adversity, it’s natural to look to others for answers and support. But the heron reminds us that we already have everything we need within ourselves. My hope is that this newsletter will remind you of how capable you are on your own two legs.

The heron was the voice of wisdom in my teaching memoir; Grit and Grace: How to Find Clarity and Optimism in Overwhelming Situations The book shares stories of my adversity and offers coaching mindset and positive psychology tools to help you confront difficulty with grace, love, vulnerability, and honesty.

I am passionate about sharing the messages in both the newsletter and the book, so others know there’s another way to face whatever life throws at them. Consider this newsletter a taste of each pillar—tools and insights you can pull from and apply to your own life.

The Measure of My Resilience

The test of my resilience came when my husband and later my sister-in-law were diagnosed with cancer. I was young and unprepared to handle either situation, and it deeply affected my emotional and mental wellbeing. Inspired by my dear friend, I left my 20-year teaching career to become a life coach and a practitioner of positive psychology. I cherished my new skills and wanted to share them with the world. Two years down the line, life thew me another curve ball, a breast cancer diagnosis.

Armed with tools, perspective and a changed mindset, I faced a year of cancer treatment. This experience allowed me to not only move forward with grace, but also to see my adversity as fuel to become a better version of myself.

What You Can Expect

I love quick reads and easily applied tools — that’s exactly what this newsletter offers. Each week you'll receive a new pillar to focus on: something to nurture, notice, or be grateful for.

We’ll start with a lesson from the heron’s perspective — how its presence and behavior reflect the week's theme.

Next comes a favorite quote (I’m a big believer in their power), followed by my own reflections and teachings, blending science and personal experience.

For the action-takers, I offer a choice of a few small steps

to try — notice the ripple it creates.

Finally, you’ll get a few thoughtful questions. Some may land quickly, others may need to simmer. Either way, stay open. Your reactions can teach you something, too.

Your Part

Each Pillar has had an enormous impact on my life, helping me face the challenges I have been given. I would love to hear from you about your experience with them. What is helpful, where are you stuck, what would you like more of. Please keep me updated on how the pillars sit with you at sara@corckrancoaching.com

Pompoms Please

Take a minute to appreciate your openness, your curiosity to see what is possible and your worthiness in finding a path that is authentic to you. May these Pillars offer a light to your experience.

Heron's Perspective on Mindset When winter arrives, the heron does not go hungry because of the cold and ice. Rather it adapts to the new surroundings by fishing in the ice or changing its diet to amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates. When it comes to hunting the heron is a poster child for a growth mindset. By adapting to its changed environment it demonstrates the...

The Heron's Perspective on Other People You won't often see a heron on a double date. In fact the most common heron sighting is alone, perched at the water’s edge. However, for nesting, they gather in neighboring trees, high above the water, in colonies or rookeries. Multiple nests can be tightly packed into a single canopy, like apples on a tree. A colony can hold as...
